A 32×40 pole barn gives you 1,280 square feet. That is a sweet spot. You get more overall size than a 24×32 pole barn with enough room for larger project or storage needs. That extra space matters, even on a budget.

Thirty-two feet wide lets you park four cars side by side with room to open doors. Or you can fit two full size trucks with a workbench and tool storage along the side wall. Forty feet deep gives you space for a lift, a long workbench, or a small office in the back. Want to see a 32×40 post frame barn at work? Check out the Radnor Pole Barn.

Standard garage bays are 10 to 12 feet wide. With 30 feet, three 10 foot bays fit tight. With 32 feet, you have all that and a little extra breathing room.

Common layout options we build:

  • Four 8×8 or 9×8 doors across the 32 foot wall for cars and small trucks.
  • Two 12 foot wide doors for full size trucks or RVs, with a man door between them.
  • One 16 foot wide door for an RV or boat, plus a separate workshop entrance.
  • Split layout. 32×20 for parking and 32×20 for a woodshop or office.
  • Lean-to on the side. Add covered outdoor storage without increasing the main footprint.

Wall height matters. 10 feet works for most cars and standard trucks. 12 feet gives you clearance for a lift, a small RV, or overhead storage. 14 feet is for larger RVs or a mezzanine.

We recently hired Swiss Construction to build a 24X32 pole barn with covered porch. We are extremely pleased with the end product. From start to finish the team at Swiss Construction has been a pleasure to work with. They are professional, responsive, hard working, timely, and fairly priced. We would highly recommend this company!

I contacted them concerning a building project. They gave me a quick response and the job was complete in very short order. The original price quoted and agreed to came back less then originally quoted. The owner has integrity and will do what he can to take care of business. Very Happy & Very Pleased !

We had Swiss Construction build us a 30×40 pole barn with a lean-to front porch about 6 months ago and they did an outstanding job. We recently had them come back and finish the ceiling of our lean-to porch and we couldn’t be happier. No project is too small or too big for Swiss Construction and the crew!

Our school district needed a maintenance/storage facility; Swiss built us a 50 X 80 X 16 building that exceeded our expectations. The quality of the workmanship is excellent; EVERY ONE of their workmen was a pleasure to work with. Swiss is a very honest company and we are in talks with them on several more buildings.

Frequently Asked Questions

In a conventionally framed home, the structure relies on a series of load-bearing stud walls, beams, and joists to support the weight of the building. The framing is typically made of dimensional lumber or engineered wood products. On the other hand, a post-frame home utilizes large vertical wood columns or posts placed at regular intervals to support the roof and walls. These posts are embedded directly into the ground or mounted on concrete piers.

Both styles of home can accommodate a wide variety of interior and exterior finishes.

We’ve learned that the term “barndominium” means different things to different people. However, it often refers to a simple, post-frame home with a floorplan that is not limited by load-bearing walls. Whether you choose this style of construction or a conventionally-framed structure, we specialize in premium living spaces that meet your living requirements and emphasize quality at every step.

The primary difference between these two styles of construction is the foundation (posts vs. load bearing walls). Choosing one or the other does not affect the overall cost of the home. Mechanical systems, flooring, cabinetry, windows, and other interior and exterior finishes cost the same, regardless of the foundation type.
