A 40×60 pole barn gives you 2,400 square feet. That is not a hobby building. This is a working size for farmers, contractors, and business owners who need real space.

The extra width (40 feet vs 30 feet) changes what you can do. You can fit two 18 foot wide bays side by side. That means pulling a semi trailer or a combine inside without playing games. Sixty feet of depth gives you a long work lane or room to store multiple pieces of equipment end to end. See an example of a 40×60 Pole Building at work.

A forty foot wide Amish made post frame building opens up real commercial and agricultural layouts. You are no longer limited to standard garage dimensions.

Common layout options we build:

  • Two 18 foot wide bays. Park a semi and a trailer side by side or park a combine and header.
  • Three 12 foot doors across the 40 foot wall for a large workshop or fleet garage.
  • One 20 foot door for oversized equipment with a mezzanine or office along the back wall.
  • Split commercial. 40×40 warehouse space with a 40×20 retail or office front.
  • Lean-to on one or both sides for covered implement parking, hay storage, or outdoor work areas.

Wall height matters on this size. Go with 12 feet for most workshop and storage uses. Choose 14 or 16 feet if you plan to stack hay, park an RV with a roof AC, or install a mezzanine. Commercial buildings sometimes go to 18 or 20 feet for overhead cranes or racking.

I contacted them concerning a building project. They gave me a quick response and the job was complete in very short order. The original price quoted and agreed to came back less then originally quoted. The owner has integrity and will do what he can to take care of business. Very Happy & Very Pleased !

We had Swiss Construction build us a 30×40 pole barn with a lean-to front porch about 6 months ago and they did an outstanding job. We recently had them come back and finish the ceiling of our lean-to porch and we couldn’t be happier. No project is too small or too big for Swiss Construction and the crew!

Our school district needed a maintenance/storage facility; Swiss built us a 50 X 80 X 16 building that exceeded our expectations. The quality of the workmanship is excellent; EVERY ONE of their workmen was a pleasure to work with. Swiss is a very honest company and we are in talks with them on several more buildings.

Frequently Asked Questions

In a conventionally framed home, the structure relies on a series of load-bearing stud walls, beams, and joists to support the weight of the building. The framing is typically made of dimensional lumber or engineered wood products. On the other hand, a post-frame home utilizes large vertical wood columns or posts placed at regular intervals to support the roof and walls. These posts are embedded directly into the ground or mounted on concrete piers.

Both styles of home can accommodate a wide variety of interior and exterior finishes.

We’ve learned that the term “barndominium” means different things to different people. However, it often refers to a simple, post-frame home with a floorplan that is not limited by load-bearing walls. Whether you choose this style of construction or a conventionally-framed structure, we specialize in premium living spaces that meet your living requirements and emphasize quality at every step.

The primary difference between these two styles of construction is the foundation (posts vs. load bearing walls). Choosing one or the other does not affect the overall cost of the home. Mechanical systems, flooring, cabinetry, windows, and other interior and exterior finishes cost the same, regardless of the foundation type.
